The Teacher’s Day Commemoration Ceremony, honoring the esteemed pioneers and distinguished leaders of education at Khatam University, was held.”
According to the Public Relations Office and website correspondent of Khatam University, the Teacher’s Day Commemoration Ceremony was held on Monday, 14 Ordibehesht, with the presence of Seyyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Khatam University; Majid Ghasemi, President of Khatam University; Mohammad Roshan, Advisor to the Minister of Science, Research and Technology; as well as vice presidents, senior administrators, and faculty members of the university. The ceremony was held in the university amphitheater hall.
Ayatollah Dr. Seyyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Khatam University, opened his remarks at this event—which marked the first public program of Khatam University following the recent imposed war—by honoring the memory of the martyrs of this conflict and reciting verses by Malek-ol-Shoara Bahar condemning war.
Alas, the owl of war and its mournful cries—May its flute be silenced for all eternity.
May its notes be forever stilled, and its wings and feet remain broken and shattered.
My dear companion has been torn from me—May its own companion suffer the same eternal severance.
He then recounted a memory shared by the mother of one of the students at Shajareh Tayyebe Elementary School in Minab, saying: “This mother told me that one morning her daughter came to her and said, ‘My sneakers are wet; I will not go to school today.’ She replied, ‘You must go.’ The child cried and went, persuading her father to intercede, but I too told him that she must attend school. Later, after that tragic event, we could not find our daughter’s body. The only thing that remained of her for us were those wet sneakers.”
Dr. Seyyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad, visibly moved by recounting this story, then remarked: “O God! Has humanity fallen? Were we not meant to progress toward perfection? What has become of us? Must a powerful, aggressive nation bring shame upon humanity? The twentieth century was truly a shining century, a century of the adoption of the United Nations Charter and dozens of other progressive laws that gave us hope that humankind was advancing. Yet now, someone claims they will return this country to the Stone Age! These matters are indeed deeply troubling.”
He continued by emphasizing the importance of believing that humans possess a divine breath and are, in essence, celestial beings. He elaborated on the esteemed position of teachers in religious texts and traditions, adding: “A good teacher is a creator of questions, not merely a provider of answers. The first teacher is God, the second teacher is the Prophets, and thereafter, anyone who strives to educate and teach others. As the Qur’an teaches, religion exists alongside knowledge, thought, and reflection—and woe to us if we develop religious knowledge intertwined with superstition and ignorance!”
In another part of his speech, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Khatam University, Seyyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad, recounted narrations of dialogues between God and His Prophet, Moses (Kaleemullah). Referring to some of these, he said: “One of the important points that God asks His Prophet is whether he has honored the scholars. I dedicate this narration to Dr. Majid Ghasemi, President of Khatam University, whom I have known since a time when neither of us had a single white hair on our faces. I bear witness that he has always been diligent in honoring and serving knowledge and scholars.”
Seyyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad also emphasized the necessity of a collective effort to rebuild the damages caused by the war across the country—from bridges and destroyed buildings to schools and scientific and economic centers. At the same time, he described the loss of scholars and national figures, particularly those holding political and academic positions during the war, as an irreparable tragedy. He added: “Truly, the statement of the Messenger of God (peace be upon him) in this regard is deeply thought-provoking: ‘When a scholar dies, a void is created in Islam that nothing can fill until the Day of Resurrection.’”
He further stressed the importance of fostering hope within society, stating: “We must not despair—do not lose hope. History does not move toward decline. It is not as some claim, that the appearance of the Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) occurs when oppression is everywhere; rather, the Imam will appear when humanity has reached a level of maturity and is deserving of his guidance.”
In the concluding part of his remarks, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees honored the memory of Dr. Abbasali Haji Karimi, the late head of the Management Department of the university, who passed away in early spring of this year. He offered condolences to his colleagues and the students of the Management Department and prayed for the elevation of the late professor’s soul.
Following this, in recognition of the years of dedicated service of the late management professor, a commemorative plaque was presented to his son, Mohammad Hossein Haji Karimi, in a ceremony attended by Dr. Majid Ghasemi and Seyyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad.
Continuing the Teacher’s Day program, Dr. Majid Ghasemi, President of Khatam University, delivered a speech on the esteemed position of teachers. Congratulating all teachers, especially the faculty members of Khatam University, he began his address by reciting the following verses:
People are mines of gold and silver in their very nature;it is the teacher who seeks out these hidden treasures.
It is by no means an exaggeration to say that, after God,it is the teacher who shapes and creates the human being.
He stated: “I extend my condolences on the martyrdom of the teacher of steadfastness, resistance, faith, and devotion to every word of the Holy Qur’an, the late Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader, over his 37 years of leadership.” He added that today we all witness how his words are being realized one after another: “He said the Iranian nation would be ‘resurrected,’ and we see how, for more than two months, this nation has stood firm and, indeed, has been revived. He stated that while an aircraft carrier is certainly a dangerous instrument, even more dangerous than the carrier is the weapon capable of sending it to the depths of the sea—and we have also witnessed this with our own eyes.”
The President of Khatam University added: “The mistake of that inhuman rebel was that he martyred him—the martyred leader of the revolution—at the very beginning of the war. Although he himself was prepared for martyrdom, his blood became ‘Thar Allah’ and awakened this nation. Today, according to the admission of all prominent global experts and statesmen, we are witnessing the emergence of what is described as the world’s fourth power. Of course, this war caused us significant harm and took from us many distinguished figures, but we hope that, through collective effort and determination, fundamental steps can be taken toward rebuilding the devastation.”
Dr. Majid Ghasemi continued by sharing memories of his teachers from his years of education, stating: “The world of teaching is a world of learning and imparting knowledge; therefore, a teacher is always in a state of growth and development.”
He then referred to the development programs of the university, noting that Khatam University currently has the capacity to recruit 19 faculty members, while 257 applicants have applied for these positions. He also called on the relevant authorities at the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology to reduce the current eight-month interval between recruitment calls, so that qualified and motivated specialists ready to teach in their fields of expertise can begin their academic work sooner.
He further advised the university’s faculty members to continuously update their knowledge in order to effectively transfer science and learning to the younger generation of the country, who are in fact the future professors and managers of Iran.
He also announced the launch of new academic programs at Khatam University starting this coming Mehr: admission at the doctoral level in Counseling, master’s degree in Computer Arts, and bachelor’s degrees in Industrial Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and English Literature.
In the midst of the president’s remarks, Dr. Mohammad Roshan, Advisor to the Minister of Science, Research and Technology, expressed appreciation for the efforts of the university’s administrators in enhancing its academic standing and announced the Ministry’s approval of the independence of Khatam University’s Promotion (Evaluation) Board.
At the Teacher’s Day commemoration ceremony of Khatam University, Dr. Hoda Shabrang, a faculty member of the Department of English Language and Literature, also delivered remarks on behalf of the university’s academic staff. She stated: “We are holding the Teacher’s Day commemoration at a time when the sorrow of the children of Minab weighs heavily on our hearts; nevertheless, we must keep the light of hope alive and continue striving for reconstruction and progress.”
She added: “Teaching is the art of creation and transformation. As educators, we must constantly learn and recognize that the teacher–student relationship goes far beyond merely transferring knowledge and moving on. At times, it is necessary to simply instill confidence in our students. The role of the teacher in our era, marked by rapid change, has evolved significantly. Despite the drawbacks of the age of artificial intelligence, one of its advantages is that it has transformed this era from one of merely answering questions to one of generating meaningful questions in the minds of students.”
In the ceremony, Mr. Mohammad Mahdi Moshtaghi, a teacher from Pasargad and representative of the educators of the Pasargad group, took the podium. He congratulated the occasion of Teacher’s Day, commemorated the martyred leader of the revolution, and described him as a great and virtuous teacher.
He also expressed appreciation for the efforts and support of Dr. Majid Ghasemi in the development of education and learning within the Pasargad Bank system, stating: “We were educated and trained within Pasargad Bank, and there we learned the lesson of responsibility.”
Dr. Zeinab Amiri, a faculty member of the Department of English Language and Literature at Khatam University, who hosted the ceremony, opened the program with a speech. She paid tribute to the memory of the students of Minab who were martyred in the recent imposed war and stated: “Despite all challenges, we must keep the pulse of hope and awareness alive among students.”
During the ceremony, a video montage reviewing the events of 1404 at Khatam University, as well as a production titled “Scientific Iran” prepared by the university’s Public Relations Office, were screened.
The Teacher’s Day commemoration ceremony at Khatam University concluded with the honoring of veteran and distinguished educators of the university. The text of the commemorative certificate presented by the university president to these distinguished and veteran educators is as follows:
O Knower, more knowing than all the knowledgeable.”
People are mines of gold and silver in their very nature;it is the teacher who seeks out these hidden treasures.
It is by no means an exaggeration to say that, after God,it is the teacher who creates and shapes the human being.
“‘Iqra’—Read—was the first word of divine light upon the crystal heart of the Messenger. ‘Read’ was the first utterance of divinity upon the breast of humanity. That wondrous descent of revelation was the first word addressed to the Prophet. And therein lies the sanctity of education in the ascent of human dignity—a station that time bestows upon no one except through the majesty of the teacher’s name. Thus, it is no exaggeration to say that the foremost word of the celestial realm upon earthly knowledge is the honoring of the teacher’s noble station.
The teacher is one who transforms the method of inquiry into the precision of understanding, engraving knowledge into the agate-like hearts of students, and drawing from the cup of existence’s patience so that the garden of learning, illuminated by the sun of teaching and learning, may continually yield the wine of development and excellence. True construction and progress are the fruit of awareness of golden ideas—the outcome of classrooms led by those who have always valued the dignity of insight and research.
How fitting it is that, in describing the exalted status of the teacher, we adorn our words with the golden saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who said: ‘Indeed, the greatest of people in reward, in this world and the hereafter, are the teachers and the seekers of knowledge.’ Truly, the exalted rank of the teacher belongs to no realm but the highest heavens and the supreme divine majesty.
Accordingly, on the occasion of the Day of Education and Research and in celebration of the lofty status of the teacher, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all esteemed and honorable bearers of light in education at Khatam University, who have revealed the beauty of knowledge through their utmost effort and dedication. In recognition of your outstanding service, enduring contributions, and your selection as Distinguished Educator / Veteran of Education in the academic year 1403–1404, this certificate of appreciation is respectfully and reverently presented.
I pray to the Most Merciful that He may illuminate your noble soul with the light of wisdom and knowledge, and forever preserve your esteemed existence under the canopy of His divine grace.
God willing.”
