National Cinema Day Celebration to be Held at Khatam University

Published: Sunday, September 6, 2026

To mark National Cinema Day, a special ceremony celebrating the “Seventh Art” will be hosted by Khatam University, organized through the joint efforts of the Cultural Unit and the Public Relations Office.

According to the Public Relations and Website Office of Khatam University, cinema—as one of the most prominent expressions of contemporary art—has established an influential position in the realms of culture, art, and thought over the past century. By leveraging the power of imagery, narrative, and creativity, cinema provides a platform for reflecting social and cultural changes, exploring human issues, and fostering dialogue and reflection on the world around us.

Iranian cinema also boasts a history spanning over a century. The first cinematograph device was introduced to Iran in 1900 during the reign of Mozaffar ad-Din Shah Qajar, with Ebrahim Khan Akkas-Bashi recognized as Iran’s first cameraman. Since then, Iranian cinema has traversed a challenging yet significant path, evolving over the years into one of the country’s most vital and well-regarded cultural and artistic arenas.

In the year 2000, coinciding with the centenary of the arrival of cinema in Iran, the 4th Celebration of Iranian Cinema designated September 12th as “National Cinema Day.” This day has since become a symbol for honoring the art of cinema, its filmmakers, and its enduring importance within Iranian culture.

Commemorating this day serves as an opportunity to focus on the cultural and social potential of cinema, as well as its role in enhancing cultural literacy, strengthening critical perspectives, and fostering social dialogue. Furthermore, the presence of art and cultural activities in an academic environment serves to create more effective interaction between knowledge, culture, and art, while strengthening the cultural dimensions of the university community.

In line with these goals, the Cultural Unit and the Public Relations Office of Khatam University are collaborating to host a cultural program to celebrate the Seventh Art and provide an opportunity for members of the university community to gather, interact, and enjoy a shared cultural experience.

Event Details:

The ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 12, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM, in the Hakim-e Azam Amphitheater. In addition to commemorating National Cinema Day and reflecting on the significance of the Seventh Art, the film “Dance with Me” (Jahan ba Man Beraghs) will be screened for attendees.

The Public Relations and Website Office of Khatam University cordially invites all esteemed faculty members, students, and university staff to attend this cultural event and join in celebrating the art of cinema and honoring the role of culture and art in the vitality and excellence of the academic environment.
