National Persian Gulf Day: A Symbol of the Resilience and Wisdom of the Iranian People

Published: Thursday, April 30, 2026

Khatam University extends its congratulations on the occasion of National Persian Gulf Day, a symbol of resilience, wisdom, and a call for regional convergence based on mutual respect and shared interests.

According to the Public Relations and Website of Khatam University, on July 12, 2005, the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, chaired by the then-President of Iran and with all members present, in its 565th session, declared April 30th as National Persian Gulf Day, marking the anniversary of the expulsion of the Portuguese from the Persian Gulf.

The Persian Gulf is the third largest gulf in the world, after the Gulf of Mexico and Hudson Bay. Due to its vast reserves of oil and gas, as well as its strategic position at the Strait of Hormuz—an essential global economic waterway—it holds significant geopolitical and strategic importance at both regional and international levels.

National Persian Gulf Day is not only a commemoration of a name, but a celebration of an identity deeply embedded in the history, culture, and future of Iran. The shining jewel of this sea, the Strait of Hormuz, like Mount Damavand, stands as a symbol of resilience, wisdom, and a call for regional convergence based on mutual respect and shared interests.

Khatam University extends its heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of National Persian Gulf Day, a symbol of the Iranian nation’s steadfastness in safeguarding its territorial integrity.
