Introduction
Research is the infrastructure of progress and innovation and serves as the lifeblood of universities globally. Universities are centers of intellectual exploration with research at their core, and it is through research that uncharted territories of knowledge, new theories, and methods are discovered. Research conducted in universities acts as a catalyst for innovation and progress. This leads to the development of new technologies, methods, and approaches that contribute to societal challenges, improving the quality of life and economic growth. Academic research facilitates collaboration and partnership across disciplines, institutions, and countries. This interconnectedness strengthens the global exchange of ideas and encourages a diverse range of perspectives and approaches. These collaborations lead to a more comprehensive approach to solving global challenges.
Objectives
The 5-year vision of Khatam University in the field of research has been formulated in line with the objectives of the university's strategic document and focusing on the strategic priorities of the country's higher education sector as follows:
- Promoting the university's scientific authority through policy-making, procedures, and research achievements in the path of acquiring and improving the university's position in reputable national ranking systems, including ISC, and international ones, including WEBOMETRIC, TIMES, Shanghai, and QS;
- Strengthening and promoting a program-oriented perspective in the research of faculty members through directional research programs;
- Promoting the per capita scientific production of faculty members and students, including publishing articles in reputable international and national journals and articles in reputable international conferences;
- Supporting and facilitating the publication of reference books in reputable national and preferably international publications;
- Activating and improving the performance of the University's Publishing Center in publishing books compiled by faculty members of the country's universities;
- Improving the credibility of the university's current publications and increasing the number of internal accredited publications to 5, and indexing at least one of the university's publications in the international Scopus database
- Establishing and improving the performance of the research laboratories of the university's educational groups;
- Establishing and improving the university's performance in the field of industry relations by increasing the number and value of contracts and memoranda of understanding for cooperation with industry and society;
- Moving towards defining and hosting at least 3 national conferences and 3 reputable international conferences centered on Khatam University.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Managing and supervising the proper implementation of all research affairs, publications, libraries, conferences, and events in accordance with relevant approvals, regulations, and bylaws;
- Submitting a report on the research performance of university professors and evaluating research activities, and evaluating the university's annual research performance to be presented to the university president;
- Establishing communication and cooperation in providing research services, holding seminars and scientific conferences, and implementing all research and research contracts between the university and other institutions;
- Cooperating in preparing and compiling the university's research regulations and determining the number of rewards for approval by the relevant competent authorities;
- Planning, scheduling, and organizing activities regarding industry-related projects and research plans;
- Receiving all regulations, bylaws, and approvals related to research notified by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology and the University Board of Directors to the relevant units and following up and monitoring their proper implementation;
- Compiling regulations, instructions, and meeting agendas related to management duties to propose to the competent authorities and councils for approval;
- Planning, scheduling, and monitoring the activities of the laboratories of the university's educational groups in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology and the university's internal procedures;
- Submitting research management performance reports to the university president regarding relevant duties;
- Proposing qualified individuals to assume various roles in the field of management to the Vice President for Research of the University;
- Monitoring the performance of subordinate staff to ensure optimal performance of duties;
- Planning, scheduling, and organizing relevant activities and events and proposing the required annual budget in accordance with the priorities of the University;
- Striving to develop and enhance the level of scientific and international cooperation of the University;
- Developing, strengthening, and directing approved research projects with priority on targeted applied research and encouraging the participation of researchers in the implementation of existing projects in the research systems of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology;
- Controlling and supervising the implementation of the University's research processes based on the calendar set by the University's Research Management;
- Performing other tasks assigned by the superior.
