The Electrical Engineering Department initiated its activities in September 2014 at Khatam University. The field of Electrical Engineering is known as the basis of many new sciences and technologies. This field is academically and scientifically so attractive and has received the largest cohort of top-ranking students in the university entrance exams annually.
Khatam’s Electrical Engineering Department has also started to admit students by providing all educational and practical facilities in the master's degree program. Having invited and employed the most prominent professors from the most prestigious universities in Iran and also being equipped with advanced laboratories have helped this department to progress in a short period of time. Our graduates are now either pursuing their doctoral degrees or working in top companies and institutions.
At present (Dec. 2022), EE department has about 50 students and nearly 100 graduates and so far, its faculty members and students have published several books and papers in reputable national and international journals. The department is also proud to declare that it has patented its first national invention at the university and has successfully finalized several research projects with industries.
Moreover, the Electrical Engineering Department has successfully supervised and conducted several research projects in the field of robotics and has widely shared its applied implications. The robotics team of Khatam University participated in the RoboCup 2021 competition in the standard robot’s group and won the award of this competition. In addition, in the field of Industry 4.0, EE department is expanding its cooperation with some of private company to carry out joint research projects. In recent years, some of the department's master’s projects have resulted in patents and the manufacturing of functional devices.
Furthermore, the Electrical Engineering Department of Khatam University offers one of the most practical and industrial programs in the field of Control at the Graduate level. The required practical knowledge to enter the professional market in the major of Control is provided by the most experienced professors in this field. The employment and invitation of renowned professors in the field of Power Systems has empowered our students to compete equally with students in other famous universities in the country and has accordingly equipped them with the necessary skills to participate in Power Engineering research projects. Likewise, in the field of Communication, prominent professors at the forefront of research in the major of Communications and Information Technology who have been decision makers in the field for many years, are now teaching in EE department in an attempt to train the future generations of outstanding specialists.
Objectives and Missions
The general objective set forth by the department is to rely on the past experiences of other universities and academic institutions and implement these valuable experiences with the expert knowledge of its faculties and visiting professors to create a genuine model for the betterment of industries in Iran. To accomplish this general objective, the department has strived to change its benchmark from "education-oriented" to "mission-oriented" so that its electrical engineering graduates can scientifically and technically gain a central position in the field to solve the problems in industry. Relying on innovation, entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary research is the main theme of the Electrical Engineering Department.
Some of the department's most important missions are:
- Implementing educational laws in accordance with the official instructions and regulations, so that in terms of education, observance of laws and the teaching methods of our outstanding professors (according to the approved syllabi), our university will be distinguished among the top universities of the country;
- Conducting applied (preferably industrial) and purposeful research, so that these studies will be citable in both theoretical and industrial dimensions and will meet the real needs of the country;
- Relying on new technologies and using updated laboratories and research centers at an acceptable level, so that its products can be used by the scientific and industrial community of the country;
- Entrepreneurship, both in terms of encouraging capital owners to invest in competitive research and in terms of preparing the students for entrepreneurship after graduation so that they can stand on their own feet in the future;
- Necessary trainings to acquaint students with managerial and economic methods in cooperation with other departments of the university;
- Developing interdisciplinary master's degree in different fields and giving admissions to doctoral programs;
- Participation in international conferences and competitions to further introduce the EE Department;
- Becoming the hub of the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) nationally and internationally.
