Background

 

Management Department of Khatam University has begun its activities since 2012 by accepting students in the fields of MBA, Strategy branch and Business Management, Marketing branch. In 2014, the field of industrial management with a focus on operations research was added to the current fields of Management Department. In 2016, the recruitment of students in the field of Business Management and International Business branches began based on the needs of the country. This department has expanded its production and operations activities in 2018 with starting to accept students in the field of Industrial Management. Also, due to the need for scientific movement in the development of human capital since 2020, accepting students in the field of Public Management, Human Resource Development branch has been added to the department’s activities. It should be noted that the management department of Khatam University is a subset of the Faculty of Management and Finance.

MBA programs have gained in popularity and been subject to public attentionthroughout the world in recent decades, particularly for those who have a bachelor's degree in a field with little to no relevance to management and are looking to hone their entrepreneurial, leadership and management skills. Khatam’s MBA program has been designed with the purpose of instilling the above-mentioned knowledge and skills, and has made it possible for students to develop strategic thinking and to apply it in the real world.

Along with the general popularity of this field and consistent with its’ importance and the needs of society all over the world, Khatam University has established a Master's program in Business Mmanagement and been accepting students since September 2013.

 

Upon initiation, and following the enactment of the Ministry of Science in 2013, the branches of this field at the Master's level were: Strategy, Marketing, Services, Organizational Behavior and Human Resources, Project-based Organizations, Information Systems and Information Technology, Operations and Supply Chain, Technology, Entrepreneurship, International Business, Finance, Product and Service Innovation and Development, and Agriculture and Food Industry. Nevertheless, according to the Ministry of Science Circular in April 2016, the revised Business Management curriculum with the following seven branches has replaced the previous curriculum: Strategy, Marketing, Organizational Behavior and Human Resources, Information Systems and Technology, Supply Chain Operations, and Technology and Finance.

 

At Khatam University, the Strategy branch is presented as the sole active branch in the field of Business Management. In order to develop and progress constantly in today's world in which one of its key features is transformational and at points surprising trends, the field of strategy has always sought to understand and provide a coherent response to the changes and complexities that lie within it. Business management in such an era requires in-depth knowledge and skills related to discovering business dynamics to effectively manage socio-economic, productive and service organizations. Through equipping students with the knowledge and skills required by businesses, as well as social and moral responsibilities, Khatam University’s Management Department prepares them to engage with the complex world and paves the way for their success in becoming effective organizational decision-makersand leaders, as well as influential entrepreneurs in both industry and society.

 

MBA Curriculum, Strategy Branch

 

To complete the MBA program, students are required to take 48 units, which entails 30 main units, 6 main-optional units, 6 specialized-main units and finally, 6 dissertation units. Considering the research-oriented nature of all Master's degree programs in the field of Management, the students are required to submit a dissertation. Also, consistent with the needs of students, a maximum of 6 compensation units will be offered to students in the first semester.

The Master of Business Administration course is one of the higher education programs, and its’ purpose is to train professionals who have knowledge and skills in concepts related to the field of domestic and international business. A wide range of topics such as marketing management, brand and advertising management, consumer behavior, international business strategies, international marketing and export and international trade agreements are presented in this field, which is applicable in a wide range of industries. In this course, students conduct research as a researcher by getting to know the latest theories in the field of business management and help the successful management of organizations through performing specialized analysis of managerial issues. History and Records of Khatam University in this Field

 

According to the 1994 directive of the Ministry of Science, the Area of Studies of Business Management major at the master's level are: marketing, international trade, e-commerce, strategic management, domestic business and entrepreneurship. Khatam University has been accepting students for its’ master's program in business management since September 2014. In 2014 and 2015, before changing the trends and topics of the Ministry of Science, student admission to Khatam University had been done in two Areas of Studies: marketing and insurance management. However, after the Ministry of Science circular from September 2016 onwards, these Area of Studies changed to international business and marketing, and now two marketing and international business are presented as active areas of studies in business management at Khatam University.

Students must take 32 courses in this Major, which is 20 common courses, of which 10 are basic and 10 are core courses. 8 specialized courses that are thespecial for each specific branchand 4 dissertation units.Considering the research-oriented nature of all Master's degree programs in the field of Management, the students are required to submit a dissertation. The purpose of this course is to enhance the skills and abilities of students to work in the marketing units of enterprises, and to provide them with capabilities such as the following:

 

  • Will gain an understanding of management and market issues;

 

  • Can present advertising strategies for economic enterprises;

 

  • Can conduct market research and collect and classify required information from consumers, competitors and distribution agents;

 

  • Can give advice on market segmentation, on target market selection and on customer attraction to directors in various businesses;

 

  • Will understand the social, economic, technological and political conditions and variables that affect the market;

 

  • Can give advice on prices, packaging, distribution methods, advertising, quality improvement, etc.;

The purpose of this course is to train people who have the skills related to managing and successfully performing the duties of commercial organizations, including the following:

Graduates of Business Management in Marketing with familiarity and mastery of market-related topics and market research, formulation of marketing strategies, attracting new customers, identifying current customers and how to communicate with them, sales processes, branding, design of advertising and promotion systems, pricing strategies , design and development of new products, estimating and forecasting sales, identifying and analyzing the activities of competitors, designing and implementing e-marketing programs, and so forth possess the essential background for employment in business units and marketing organizations, and compared to other management trends that lack such disciplines, they have a good job market. With extensive knowledge in the fields of business and marketing, human relations, finance and economics, graduates of this program can well be employed at the level of executives in commercial, industrial and governmental organizations, or as management consultants. In order to respond to the international business environment, which has always been accompanied by many dynamics and uncertainties, in the international business orientation, the aim of this program is to teach a wide range of new management theories with emphasis on the international aspect required in business and its’ current work, in an attempt to meet the goals of an organization active in the field of international business. In this context, students will be acquainted with the tasks of domestic and foreign commercial organizations and their skills in recognizing and analyzing international markets and gaining a strategic view of new markets and the ability to make decisions in the international arena, as well as understanding different cultures and development attitudes. MSc in Industrial Management is a postgraduate program to train specialized human resources in order to guide and manage various manufacturing and service industries. In this course, students are equipped with advanced tools and theories and learn the technical features required to manage an organization, and become familiar with the necessary skills to guide the behavioral and technical aspects of production and services organizations.

Production and Operations Branch Objectives

 

The primary purpose of this field is to empower students so that they can identify and analyze the reasons behind the inefficiencesdifferent areas of the organization through studying different aspects of organizations, and be able to make correct and appropriate decisions by using scientific methods to improve organizational performance. The skills that people acquire in this field are:

 

  • Analyze and process data in the organization's operational areas for decision making;

 

  • Analysis of supply chain issues;

 

  • Design and analysis of inventory control system;

 

  • Participate in the design and development of products and services;

The field of Public Administration, formerly known as the Department of Public Affairs due to its age, was known as the oldest field of management studies. If we consider the decision-making system of the country to comprise the three parts of the political system, the administrative system, and the private sector, Public Administration is responsible for implementing policies that are set out in the political system and then evaluated. Moreover, since Public Administration is mediated by the political system and the private sector, the success of the political system and the private sector of the country depend on successful implementation of developed policies and the abilities of the bureaucratic system or public administration.
