Workshop 1: Introductory Workshop on Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) Tools
Focusing on MateCat and Trados
Lecturer: Dr. S. Hossein Arjani
Duration: 12 hours
Date: 30 – 31 August 2022, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
This workshop focuses on academic skill of working with online translator tools that enhance the quality and speed of translation, reduce its production cost, and create more job opportunities for translators in the translation market. At first, the concepts and terms related to these tools and their different capabilities will be explained. Next, a basic online translator tool (MateCat) is introduced. This will include practical training on creating and carrying out a translation project, using public and private translation repository and vocabulary list, translation editing and quality assessment, teamwork and online participation, as well as troubleshooting in this environment. In the next section of the workshop, working with a translator computer software (Trados) is taught on Windows OS. In addition to the items covered in the Matecat tool, specific project management capabilities in the Trados environment are also introduced. Participants will also learn how to create additional resources used in these tools and extra resources will also be provided to them.
Workshop 2: The Basics of Literary Translation and its Market in Iran

Date: 01 September 2022, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The participants will first get acquainted with the basics of literary translation in general and issues such as the dos and don'ts of literary translation as well as its requirements. Also, from a technical point of view, issues such as preserving the style and context of the work, reconstructing the language, transferring tone, translating cultural elements, translating dialect, etc. will be raised. Next, the essential issues of the literary translation market in Iran will be elaborated on for the participants, and at the end, they will practice literary translation.
