Pasargad’s Super Heavy Refinery Opens at Qeshm

Pasargad Energy Development Company’s (PEDC) super heavy oil refinery was inaugurated and put into operation at Qeshm Island in the presence of Iranian president, Ebrahim Raisi.
In line with directives made by Iran Supreme Leader on the avoidance of crude sales, the PEDC refinery project was inaugurated on Friday 14 January 2022.
The first phase of the project with a crude processing capacity of 35,000 b/dprovides 400 people with job opportunities directly and more than 1,000 others indirectly.
The refinery, which was constructed on 40 hectares of land in compliance with Euro 2005 standards and environmental regulations, has the following benefits for the country:
- Guaranteeing extraction from the South Pars field,
- Creating job opportunities in the region,
- Producing high quality products,
- Exporting more petroleum products including bitumen
- Increasing annual export to more than 15 billion dollars
The start ceremony of the second phase was held a day earlier on January 13 in the presence of Iran Petroleum Minister. The second phase is expected to expand the capacity to 100,000 b/d.
It is also worth noting that Pasargad Energy Development Group has invested more than 560 million dollars for constructing its super heavy oil refinery along with a power plant with the capacity of generating 500 MWs of electricity as well as three export wharf posts with the capacity of exporting 15 million tons per annum.
